The doors slide open; a series of pumpkin strips of light border the carpet. Overhead, white light pours down from fluorescent bulbs. Voices come from around the corner, and Laneira sees a familiar face when she takes a quick look. A Skip Agent, Terrance, stands against the wall while he talks with a person inside another room. He's dressed more formally than the ones outside, a dark suit, sandy hair and a pistol held tight in both hands.
“Give me the recovery key’s location, and I won't have to shoot you,” he says.
A voice responds from the other room. “You won't shoot me. I die, the pilot dies.”
Terrance laughs, “You don't think there are redundant sensors?”
Another response, “Redundant? Yes. Capable? No.”
